Sophie Fleming, MSc

Clinical Anaplastologist

Sophie is an Australian anaplastologist specialising in external prosthetic rehabilitation.

Sophie’s career in prosthetics spans over 20 years with roots in the artistically innovative field of film and television, and culminating in long term studies in health and clinical science, most recently attaining MSc in Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation via King's College London.

Sophie is passionate about reconstructive prosthetics. Particularly how the intersection of art practice, health science, and new technologies are evolving this field forward.  She collaborates regularly with other specialties to give the best outcome for people requiring facial prostheses and has worked for a number of years alongside limb prosthetic company Northern Prosthetics to provide custom silicone solutions for amputees.

Sophie is interested in providing knowledge and education about this field in an effort to allow better access to services for patients, and is a long term advocate for establishing a comprehensive funding scheme for Australian people requiring facial prostheses. She has been invited to speak on facial and cosmetic limb prostheses at numerous conferences, education forums, support groups and hospitals across New South Wales and Queensland. Sophie is a registered provider for both NSW and QLD Health and the National Disability Insurance Scheme in both states.

Professional memberships include the Institute for Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists (IMPT), the International Society for Maxillofacial Rehabilitation (ISMR), and the International Anaplastology Association (IAA).  Sophie is a member of the ISMR Facial Prosthetics special interest group, and serves on the IAA Clinical Practice Standards committee. Sophie's mission is to provide person-centered, aesthetically excellent, and clinically sound prostheses.
